Love & Affection... Happy Birthday

Here's a simple birthday card for you today....

It was my mom's birthday on September 4.  She passed away 13 years ago - it seems nearly impossible that she's been gone that long!  I still miss her every day.  She was an amazing, caring, laid-back kind of lady who never sweated the small stuff (I still wish I could be more like her!).  She never got to be a part of my Stampin' Up! life (I'm sure I thought I was waaay too busy back then to do anything like this!), but I think she would have enjoyed making an occasional card with me :).

Here's a picture of her with my son, Cade, when he was just about 4 months old - he's 14 now!

So, in honor of her birthday this month, here's a card I might have sent to her.  Navy blue always reminds me of her.  I think it's because one of my favorite memories of her is at my sister's wedding in a beautiful navy blue dress :).

Ok, on to our card....

We start our card with a Crumb Cake card base.

Next, we added two pieces of Night of Navy card stock to the front of our card.  I put them at angles to each other to give the card a little bit of interest (I mean, it is a pretty simple card!).

On one of the Night of Navy pieces (on the left side), we added a piece of the Affectionately Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper - aren't those copper embossed flowers just gorgeous??  They really sparkle in the light.

Then, on the other Night of Navy piece, we added a crumb back piece that was stamped with Versamark ink.  The flowers are from the Love & Affection Stamp Set, and the Happy Birthday sentiment is from the Butterfly Basics set.  Next, we sprinkled Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder onto our stamped images and heat set them with our Heat Tool.
