3D Project/Big Shot/Gift Item Class/Club - Thursday, April 17

Here are the fun projects we made at the 3D Project/Big Shot/Gift Item Class this month!!

This is our first project.....

Every year, I like to make a fun photo holder with my kids' school pictures.  You could obviously insert any wallet-size photo into this frame - makes a great Mother's Day gift, too!!

This photo holder is made with chipboard (a 3 3/4" x 5" piece on each side).  You may have received some chipboard in one of your recent Designer Series Paper orders.  Right now, it's used to preserve the Gold (& Silver) Fancy Foil Designer Vellum Paper - I save every piece we get for projects just like this!!

We covered the chipboard with Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper.  I like to use the TomBow Multipurpose Liquid Glue to hold the paper in place on the chipboard - just remember that a little bit goes a loooong way!  We also wrapped a strip of the Burlap Ribbon around each piece and tucked it behind the photos.  To Cade's picture, we added a Naturals Designer Button tied with some Linen Thread.  And....., to Lilly's picture, we added an Essentials Wooden Element and a Gold Baker's Twine bow!  I thought it might be fun to put a bit of journaling or the year on the wooden arrow piece!

Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper  130144  $10.95

1 1/4" Burlap Ribbon  132140  $7.95

Naturals Designer Buttons  127554  $4.95

Linen Thread  104199  $4.50

Essentials Wooden Elements  132258  $4.95

Gold Baker's Twine  132975  $3.50

And.... here's the front of the photo holder - it looks great on your desk at work so that people can see it from both sides!  To the front, we added a couple of fun spiral flowers - made with the Spiral Flower Originals Die.  I watched a great You Tube video on how to make these flowers - you basically curl the spiral with your bone folder first (to get the flowers curling in the right direction for you), then just start with the small outside piece and wrap it tightly around itself.  Hot glue works best once you've finished wrapping the flower - I kept one very tight and then let the other one loosen up a bit before I hot-glued it to the last inside circle. We also used hot glue to adhere the flowers to the Burlap Ribbon.

Spiral Flower Originals Die  129379  $17.95

Since this is a great Mother's Day gift, I thought it would be fun to make a Mother's Day card to go with it!!

This card starts with a Very Vanilla card base, then we added a layer of Soft Suede embossed with the Pretty Print Embossing folder.  Next, we added a layer of Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper at the bottom of the card.  We stamped a Pistachio Pudding flower from the Flower Shop stamp set and then punched it out with the coordinating Pansy Punch.  We also stamped "for my wonderful mother" from the Delightful Dozen stamp set in Soft Suede ink.

And now, for the best part....

How did we make that beautiful flower in the center of the pansy??  I've been wanting to play with the Simply Pressed Clay for quite some time now.  It's sat on my craft table, just patiently waiting!  I decided to die the clay with Pistachio Pudding re-inker, so that it coordinated nicely with the card.  Just put a bit of clay in a zip lock bag, add drops of re-inker (I probably used about 20 drops!), seal up the bag and work the color into the clay.  It's really simple!!  Next, add a small amount of clay to the smallest flower in the Buttons & Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Mold, tear off any excess so that it's flat across the bottom of the mold, then carefully flex the mold so that the clay flower pops out of it.  I popped my flowers directly onto a piece of tin foil, then placed them in the freezer to set up for about an hour. Glue dots work best to adhere the flower to the center of the pansy.

Flower Shop Bundle  wood-mount  132727  $33.95
Flower Shop Bundle  clear-mount  132726  $28.75

Delightful Dozen Stamp Set  wood-mount  128547  $32.95
Delightful Dozen Stamp Set  clear-mount  122652  $24.95

Simply Pressed Clay  130685  $6.95

Buttons & Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds  131272  $7.95
